Our school, the 7th Lower Secondary (“Gymnasium”) School of Heraklion, is located on the outskirts of the city of Heraklion, in a neighborhood called Nea Alatsata. It was founded in 1979 and relocated to a newly constructed building in 2002. The education provided by our school is compulsory and represents the final part of the national nine – year compulsory education system.
Our school community consists of 35 teachers and 378 students (12 – 15 years old) from surrounding city neighborhoods. A psychologist and a social worker are also present at school once or twice a week, in order to provide support for students, parents and teachers if needed.
Teachers focus, not only on providing the necessary subject specific knowledge required by the national curriculum, but also on “creating” active students able to think critically and cope with future life challenges. In order to help meet these goals, students are encouraged to get involved in various projects (eTwinning, environmental awareness etc.) every year.
Starting from this school year, we are participating in a two - year Erasmus KA2 project for the first time in our school history.
